This is a jolly tune that Valentine was very taken by and hopefully will become a useful addition to our list! The tune has its own Wikipedia page as its name comes from the Jacobin uprising of 1745 when Prince Charlie invaded England, and apparently rode into Carlisle led by a hundred pipers. The song is attributed to Carolina Nairne who wrote it in 1852. And has since managed to appear in a Laurel and Hardy sketch!
Often played in G and also in A (especially in Scotland), I have started with it in G … but we could add it in A if requested! It has the classic Scottish structure of repeating the last half of the A part in the B part.
Recordings:
The Good Tune (fiddle and guitar and in G)
Paul Young on melodeon (in G and then in A)
Scottish pipe band (whistle and song live in Berlin)
Bagpipes (not sure of key) good and slow
Single piper (probably in A)
Banjo (not sure of key)
