Go to Berwick, Jonny

I was reminded of this great 3/2 tune, hearing Alex and Yasha playing it. Jane had taught it to Noah as one of his first tunes and I thought it would be a good addition to the website. It was quite hard to decide what to call it. This seemed the most common name on Youtube, but it is also known as Berwick Billy, and Berwick Jockey. The session.org listed Come To Berwick Johnny, Go To Berwick Johnny, Go To Berwick, Billy, Go To Berwick, Johnny. As with the names, so the tune has quite a few variations (and keys). We learned it in A… and if the G# prove tricky to play on your instrument, an E would work there instead. However, some people play it in G, so check which note you are starting on if you are learning it by ear (should be an E).

Lots of good places to listen:
The Good Place (violin and guitar)
Border pipes
Small pipes
Melodeon (bit faster)
Mandolin (accompanied by concertina and guitar) (definitely in A)
