The story goes that Johnny Moynihan was out on the town one night when a friend found a cheque in her bag and so the drinking and partying continued… According to Wikipedia, Johnny Moynihan is widely credited with introducing the bouzouki into Irish folk music and he was certainly very much part of the folk revival in the 1960s. This tune was played as a set by Planxty between Dennis Murphy’s and John Ryan’s and since we have those two tunes already, it made sense to learn the one in between, especially as it’s a good tune in its own right.
Here’s Planxty’s version
Played before Denis Murphy’s (fiddle and guitar)
Bouzouki and guitar (with great guitar strumming)
Bouzouki alone
Whistle, drum, mandolin and banjo
